Let’s get it on!

lets-get-it-on-2

Hey guys,

Pleased to tell you all that I will be facing Zab Judah on July 23rd at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Negotiations to find an opponent have taken some time but I’m really happy that we have come to an agreement with one of the best opponents in the division and someone who currently holds the IBF Light Welterweight World title.

The press conference is taking place tomorrow in LA to officially announce the fight and I’m really looking forward to it. I came face-to-face with Judah on the weekend when I was at the Chavez Jr vs Sebastian Zbik fight (congratulations to my stablemate on becoming the new champ!). We were both interviewed on HBO to get our thoughts on this massive fight and tomorrow we will be fielding questions from all the US media.

I have always maintained my aim is to unify this division and by taking on and beating Judah I can do just that by capturing another belt. I know how good Zab Judah is, he’s been in with the likes of Floyd Mayweather and Miguel Cotto, so I’ll need to be smart and make sure that I don’t make any mistakes because he is the type of fighter that can punish you. But I’m confident if I stick to the game plan that I have the speed and power to knock him out.

Judah is a southpaw like my last opponent McCloskey, and he likes to throw looping shots. But unlike McCloskey he is game to fight and likes to come forward which will make for a very exciting night. He’s also very quick but I’m sure my sparring with Manny Pacquiao will help me in that respect because he is one of the quickest fighters in the world.

I’ve watched Judah a few times over the years and know his strengths and weaknesses. At this level there are no easy fights and I want to face only the best in the division. July 23rd is going to be an explosive night and I have no doubt that many of my fans from around the world are going to be flying over to watch a great fight. I’ve heard they have been really busy since the fight was announced, with loads of fans looking to take trip to Vegas during the summer – it will be an occasion not to be missed!

It’s been around two weeks since my training camp began and Freddie has been pleased with how I have been doing. The gap between my last fight and my upcoming one, around 7 weeks, has not been as big as it has been in the past which has meant I’m still in good condition.

As it’s still early in training I have been getting a few minor aches and pains, especially because I’ve really been pushing myself but this tends to clear up once you are back in the rhythm of things. I will start my sparring at around 3 weeks into camp, at the moment I’ve been doing mostly pad work and conditioning to build up my strength.

I’ve got used to LA now having been training here for a while but I do miss home from time-to-time. The football season has finished so I won’t be missing any Bolton games at least! In the evenings I just like to relax and make sure that I get as much rest as possible so that I can use my energy in training.

I’m here to take care of business and I intend to do that against Zab Judah on July 23rd – what a fight it’s going to be! Keep that date in your diary free.

All the best
